Packaging
Packed in units of 40, 50 or 60 stems
The packaging of Gerberas is made to measure. Most standard Gerberas are traded in special boxes for one-off use. Each box is provided with a support block to prevent the stems from moving. 50 flowers are packed in each box. Only flowers with a diameter of 11.5 cm or more are packed in boxes of 40. The diameter of the flower is shown on the box, together with the names of the cultivar and the grower (often shown as a logo). About 25% of mini Gerberas are traded in boxes of 60 flowers and most of these are delivered in water. 4 or 5 bunches of 20 stems are stood in a bucket with an extension unit.
Packed in water
Gerberas (both standard and mini Gerberas) are also traded in water packaging. There are three variants::
- the Flower Racket
- the Diamond packaging
- the Aquabox

The Flower Racket (left image) is a carton in the form of a tennis racket with holes through which the flower stems are pushed. Each racket can accommodate 10 flowers. Around the racket is a protective plastic sleeve. Further details are available at flowerracket.nl.
The Diamond packaging (centre image) is square packaging, in which small numbers can be traded in water. One diamond packaging unit can accommodate 15 standard and 20 mini Gerberas. iIt has a surrounding protective plastic sleeve.
The Aquabox (right image) is a cardboard box containing a hard plastic four-vase structure filled with water. Each vase contains a small packaging of 20 Gerberas that stand upright in the water. There is a window in the front of the packaging, so the product is easily visible. One cardboard transport box can contain 4 packagings.
About 10% of standard Gerberas and 5% of mini Gerberas are traded in these packagings.
